On the special occasion of the 74th birth anniversary of Pandit Lachhu Maharaj, Indian classical dancer and choreographer of Kathak; Google remembers him.
Lachhu Maharaj's original name is Lakshmi Narayan Singh was born in a Benaras Gharana on 16th October in the year 1944. Lachhu Maharaj is one of the prominent tabla players and also a professional classical dancer. The artist worked as a choreographer in a few iconic films like “Pakeezah” and “Mughal-e-Azam”.
In the year 1957, Lachhu Maharaj was bestowed by India's Academy for music, drama and dance with the highest award for performing artists, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Lachhu Maharaj was also nominated for Padma Shri, but he refused to accept it.
