Are you one of those moms who cannot leave their kids alone and so you take them grocery shopping with you? Do you have to deal with tantrums and end up buying junk they don’t need? Here are some tips to make grocery shopping with kids a dream and not a nightmare.
- MAKE FLASH CARDS:
Make them flashcards of some items on your list like apples, bread etc. which they can find easily and help you shop.
- MAKE A SEPARATE LIST:
Make a separate list for your kids if you want something especially for them like school supplies or toiletries. If they’re old enough to leave your side, hand them the list and ask them to find all the required items.
- GET THEM SOMETHING OF THEIR CHOICE:
Tell them at the beginning that they will get to pick one item of their choice. This could be something like a new fruit to try, new snack for school or a stationery item.
- GIVE THEM LITTLE JOBS:
Give them little jobs to do so it makes them feel important and they’re occupied. You could ask them to:
- Strike off items in the list
- Read the next item
- Compare prices
- Choose produce
- Push the trolley
- Read the labels of products chosen
- Calculate the total after each item is added
- Put the items into your shopping bag
- DON’T SHOP WHEN THEY’RE HUNGRY:
Hungry kids can throw huge tantrums and nothing can convince them. Go after a meal or get them a snack before shopping!
