Forbes released its 2015 list of the world's billionaires and the world's richest person got even richer this year. Forbes reported that Bill Gates' net worth rose to $79.2 billion in 2015 from $76 billion last year making Bill Gates the richest man on the planet once again. There are 1,826 billionaires with an aggregate net worth of $7.05 trillion, up from $6.4 trillion a year ago.
Bill Gates is followed by Mexican telecommunications mogul Carlos Slim Helu at No. 2 ($77.1 billion) and the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett ($72.7 billion), at No. 3. Microsoft founder Gates has topped the charts for 16 of the past 21 years, Forbes said. Christy Walton, who inherited a stake in retailer Wal-Mart, retains the title of world’s richest woman and Forbes reports her net worth at $41.7 billion, up from $36.7 billion a year ago.
Nearly 25% of this year’s first-time billionaires hail from China, which produced a world-leading 71 newcomers. The United States came in second, with 57, followed by India, with 28, and Germany, with 23. There are 197 women which has increased from 172 women in the billionaire club in the 2014 list.
The youngest new billionaire is Evan Spiegel, the 24-year-old co-founder and chief executive of photo-sharing app Snapchat, is worth $1.5bn. His co-founder Bobby Murphy, 26, also has a $1.5bn fortune. A record 46 billionaires among the ranks are under age 40.
