As a successful model, a thriving TV show host, and a talented actress—Varshini has a varied career spectrum. Although she began modelling only as a part time job, little did she know that it would lead to such great achievements. After the success of her film Chandamama Kathalu, web series Pelli Gola, and reality dance show Dhee 10, she’s a name to reckon.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on a film with Sudheer Babu, the title of which hasn’t been finalised yet. I’m also hosting a television reality show called Dhee 10. Apart from this there’s a web series called Pelli Gola that is being produced by Annapurna Studios. The series has completed its first season and I got a great response for it. We’re now shooting for the second and third seasons of the series. I’ve also been getting a lot of offers for hosting television shows after Dhee 10 and I’m in talks with some people for the same.
What made you get into films?
I’m basically a model. After pursuing a B.Sc. in Electronics, I started modelling as a hobby, for added pocket money, and in time in grew into a full-fledged career, and I absolutely love it. One thing led to another and soon I was cast for the national-award winning film Chandamama Kathalu. Post this I signed a deal with Maruti Talkies for three films, two of which didn’t do well at all, thanks to which I became choosy about the films I was selecting. I was earlier taking on everything that came my way, as was the norm in modelling.
Having said that, modelling is my first love and I continue to take on modelling projects even now. I took a break from films after two of my films tanked in the box office, but then Pelli Gola came my way, and then there was no looking back. In fact the first season got such an overwhelming response that we’re now making season 2 and 3 of the web series.
What is the best part about being an actor?
Being in front of the camera gives me a high, and the support that the audience gives you is like none other. People recognise you and want to take pictures with you wherever you go, all this gives you a great high.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I watch movies in various different languages, be it Korean, Tamil, Telugu, or anything else. However, I haven’t been getting much time these days as I’m busy with work.
What’s your favourite genre of films?
Comedy. It helps me de stress.
If not an actor, what would your alternate career option be?
I don’t plan anything; I go with the flow, so I would’ve done the same if modelling and acting hadn’t happened. The only thing I plan in a day is my food (laughs). I’m a foodie!
Since Sankranti is around the corner, can you tell us if and how you celebrate it?
When I was younger my brother used to fly kites and I used to hold the chakri. Apart from that, since I’m Tamilian, we do a Surya puja, prepare some special delicacies, and wear new clothes.
